U.S. President History
1901 - U.S. President William McKinley was shot and mortally wounded (he died eight days later) by Leon Czolgosz. Czolgosz, an American anarchist, was executed the following October.
1978 - U.S. President Carter began hosting the Camp David peace accords between Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menahem Begin. The meetings ended on September 17.
2004 - Former U.S. President Bill Clinton underwent a four-hour quadruple bypass operation. Clinton had gone to the hospital the previous week after complaining of prolonged chest pain and shortness of breath.
2006 - U.S. President George W. Bush acknowledged that the CIA had been running secret prisons overseas. The prisons were used to interrogate terrorist leaders that had been captured. The 14 suspects included the mastermind of the September 11, 2001 attacks in the U.S and the planners for the 2000 bombing of the USS Cole and the U.S. Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania.
