U.S. President History 1892 - Former U.S. President Grover Cleveland defeated incumbent Benjamin Harrison. He became the only president to win non-consecutive terms in the White House. 1933 - The Civil Works Administration was created by executive order by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The organization was designed to create jobs for more than 4 million unemployed people in the U.S. 1960 - John F. Kennedy was elected President of the United States. 1966 - Ronald Reagan was elected governor of California. 1966 - U.S. President Johnson signed an anti-immunity for the AFL-NFL merger. 1990 - U.S. President Bush ordered more troop deployments in the Persian Gulf, adding about 150,000 soldiers to the multi-national force fighting against Iraq. 2012 - In Fort Worth, TX, the JFK Tribute was dedicated at the corner of Main and 8th Streets. President Kennedy gave a speech at the location in front of the former Hotel Texas on November 22, 1963.
