U.S. President History 1883 - U.S. President Grover Cleveland and Frances Folsom were married. He was the second president to be married in the White House. He was the first to have a wedding in the White House. 1933 - U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt accepted the first swimming pool to be built inside the White House. 1952 - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that President Harry Truman had usurped Congress's power when he ordered government control of the country's steel mills. 1987 - U.S. President Reagan announced the nomination of Alan Greenspan as chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. 2009 - U.S. President Barack Obama signed legislation that created the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission to plan a celebration in 2011 of the 100th anniversary of Reagan's birth.
