1895 - The final issue of the weekly newspaper Rolling Stone appeared. It was published in Austin, TX, by William Sydney Porter (a.k.a. O. Henry).

1907 - In Hemming, TX, seven people were killed by a tornado. All but one of the town's buildings were destroyed.

1950 - The Barker Texas History Center opened on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin. The Barker Center was later renamed the Eugene C. Barker Texas History Collection.

1983 - Nolan Ryan (Houston Astros) broke a 55-year-old major league baseball record when he struck out the 3,509th batter of his career.

2015 - Josh Hamilton was officially traded back to the Texas Rangers from the Los Angeles Angels of Aneheim for cash or a player to be named later.
