1939 - U.S. President Roosevelt laid the cornerstone of the Jefferson Memorial in Washington, DC.

2009 - One of the last autographs by John F. Kennedy sold at auction for $39,000. Kennedy signed a copy of the Dallas Morning News that was handed to him by a woman in the crowd about two hours before his assassination. The grey fedora worn by Jack Ruby when he shot Lee Harvey Oswald sold for $53,775 at the same auction.
