1941 - The National Gallery of Art was officially opened by U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt in Washington, DC.

1972 - U.S. President Nixon asked Congress to halt busing in order to achieve desegregation.

1985 - U.S. President Reagan agreed to a joint study with Canada on acid rain.

1991 - Israel's Prime Minister Shamir said that Israel would never give up the occupied territories and declared the Golan Heights "part of Israel." On March 7th, U.S. President Bush had called upon Israel to abide by U.N. Resolutions 242 and 338 as well as the principle of "territory for peace."
