1913 - Ralph Edwards, the host of "This is Your Life" and "Truth or Consequences" was born. Ronald Reagan was the only person to ever substitute for him.

1967 - Solicitor General Thurgood Marshall was nominated by President Lyndon B. Johnson to become the first black justice on the U.S. Supreme Court.

1989 - U.S. President George Bush exercised his first Presidential veto on a bill dealing with minimum wage.

1992 - Future U.S. President Bill Clinton criticized Sister Souljah for making remarks "filled with hatred" towards whites.

2002 - The 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty between the U.S. and Soviet Union expired. U.S. President George W. Bush had invoked a provision six months before that would allow either side to withdraw upon such notice. The treaty was over 30 years old.

2002 - The National Archives briefly displayed artifacts from the Watergate burglary that led to U.S. President Nixon's resignation.

2004 - In College Station, TX, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush did a 13,000-foot parachute jump over his presidential library.

2006 - U.S. President George W. Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq. He met with the Iraqi Prime Minister and U.S. troops.
