1981 - President Reagan's first formal act as president was to sign legislation making January 29 "A Day of Thanksgiving to Honor Our Safely Returned Hostages."
1981 - President Reagan ordered a 60-day freeze on pending government regulations. He also issued Executive Order 12288 that terminated wage and price controls.
1984 - President Reagan formally announced that he would seek reelection.
