1857 - During the Utah War, "Wild Bill" Hickman set fire to Fort Bridger to keep it away from the approaching U.S. Army.

1902 - A contract for a bath house at the Big Horn Hot Springs was given to Jerry Ryan of Thermopolis.

1949 - Fort Francis E. Warrent was renamed Francis E. Warren Air Force Base.

1998 - In Laramie, WY, Matthew Shepard was found beaten, burned and tied to a wooden fence. He died October 12 in Fort Collins, CO. Two men were later charged with his murder.
