1937 - Adolf Hitler ordered a ban on all hydrogen zeppelin flights.

1943 - U.S. forces landed on the Aleutian island of Attu. The Americans took the island from the Japanese 19 days later.

1944 - A major offensive was launched by the allied forces in central Italy.

1946 - The first American CARE packages sent to postwar Europe arrived at Le Havre, France.

1960 - Israeli soldiers captured Adolf Eichmann in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

2009 - John Demjanjuk was deported from the U.S to Germany. He was a suspected Nazi death camp guard.
